(Photo by Tim Warner/Getty Images)Last weekend wasn’t a great one for Texas football. Riding a six-game winning streak, the Longhorns came out flat at Oklahoma State.Texas was in a 17-point hole, and wound up clawing back, but ultimately fell by three on the road. The game made headlines for what happened after the final whistle; Texas coach Tom Herman had to be held back after a shouting match with OSU’s Mike Gundy. The loss probably eliminated Texas football from College Football Playoff dreams, but FS1’s Joel Klatt had some positive takeaways from the game.Texas is now 6-2, but the team remains tied for the lead in the Big 12. To Klatt, that is serious progress. He appeared on 96.7 FM The Ticket in Dallas on Wednesday to talk ‘Horns football with Bob Sturm and Dan McDowell. From 247Sports:“I thought they played a really poor game on the road, against a quality opponent — a decent opponent, and they still only lost by three,” Klatt said. “You don’t take any moral victories, but Texas is really good and they’re still right in the thick of things.”[…]“No one thought this was a playoff team going into the year,” Klatt said. “So the fact that they’re probably not in that discussion right now shouldn’t cause anybody to gnash their teeth and wring their hands out if you will.”Texas was in the Top 10 heading into the week. After the team’s second loss, it is at No. 17 in the College Football Playoff rankings. Most realistic Longhorns fans would have probably signed for that progress at the beginning of the season, especially with a win over Oklahoma in the mix.[247Sports]last_img read more
