Microsoft Releases the Most Powerful and Poorly Named Console

first_img A year after announcing it, Microsoft has finally revealed the launch date, price, and official name of its upcoming video game system. The Xbox One X follows in the footsteps of the Xbox One S and Xbox One when it comes to confusing console names. While the system may have an unfortunate moniker, it seems to have everything faithful Xbox fans could possibly want.Digital Foundry did a fantastic analysisof the console formerly known as Project Scorpio last month. But now, we have a full official spec run-down directly from Microsoft. The system has six teraflops GPU clocked at 1.172Ghz, 12GBs of GDDR5 memory, 326GB/s memory bandwidth, 8 million plus pixels, HDR, a wide color gamut, Premium Dolby Atmos sound, 4K UHD Blu-ray playback, and a liquid-cooled vapor chamber.Since the Xbox One X is essentially an upgraded Xbox One, it is compatible with all existing Xbox One accessories. It will also be able to run all Xbox One and Xbox 360 backward compatible titles, albeit with improved graphics. It is entirely possible that Microsoft will release different color SKUs in the future. As far as what folks will actually play on this system, Microsoft promises 22 “console launch exclusives.” This includes titles like Forza Motorsport 7, Crackdown 3, and Sea of Thieves. Third party games like Middle-Earth: Shadow of War and Assassin’s Creed: Origins will release close to the Xbox One X’s launch window with system-specific enhancements. The Xbox One X will launch on November 7 for $499.
