Korail takes delivery of first Hyundai Rotem EMU-250 trainset

first_imgThe first of the 260 km/h trainsets is expected to enter service in early 2020. The fleet will be used on the Gyeongjeon, Seohae and Jungang lines. The units have been designed for services making numerous stops on routes upgraded for 200 km/h operation, where their maximum speed is less important than rapid acceleration and braking. The EMU-250 design has been derived from Hyundai Rotem’s HEMU-430x ultra-high speed train prototype unveiled in 2012.Each six-car unit will be 150 m long and 3 150 mm wide with capacity for 381 passengers. The interior was developed incorporating feedback received when a mock-up was displayed to the public in 2017. It has more leg room than previous Korail high speed trains, with wider armrests, seats aligned with the windows and USB and wireless charging points. SOUTH KOREA: Hyundai Rotem delivered the first EMU-250 electric trainset with distributed traction to Korail on November 4.The national operator ordered 19 six-car EMU-250 trainsets in two batches in 2016, with five scheduled to be delivered from the manufacturer’s Changwon works by August 2020 and the remaining 14 by the end of 2020.#*#*Show Fullscreen*#*#last_img read more

Gary Anderson won World Darts Championship at level of just ‘85%’

first_imgGary Anderson insists he managed to retain his PDC World Darts Championship title by playing only “85% of my best game.”The Scot beat Adrian Lewis 7-5 at the Alexandra Palace on Sunday to back up the maiden title he won against Phil Taylor a year ago. For those watching this was another epic contest, Anderson and Lewis nailing 34 180s for a darts record in a single match. “The way I’ve played in the tournament, I think I’ve deserved this,” Anderson told the PDC website. “It never really clicked but there was some great darts. “It’s great to have defended the title. It feels fantastic and I probably did it at 85 per cent of my best game.” Anderson, 45, appeared to be at 100 per cent when he checked out on 170 in the final set, but added: “I’ve got the trophy for another 12 months at least. “It would be lovely to make it a hat-trick next year and do something really special but I’m not getting any younger. “I’ll keep plodding on and see what happens.”last_img read more

Cabinet to weigh up high-speed rail plan

first_img23 February 2011Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele is to approach Cabinet for approval of plans for South Africa’s first long-distance high-speed rail link, between Durban and Johannesburg.Last September, Ndebele announced the proposal as part of the National Transport Master Plan 2010-2050.As far back as 2005, there have been plans for high-speed rail links for Johannesburg to Durban, Johannesburg to Musina, and the Moloto Corridor between Tshwane and former KwaNdebele in Mpumalanga.Speaking in Pretoria this week, Ndebele said the time had come for these projects to be rolled out.Cabinet approval of the Durban to Johannesburg high-speed rail project would kick-start a process that includes a feasibility study on the viability of the rail link. The plan has triggered major local and international interest from countries such as France, Germany, China, the United States of America, Japan, Canada and South Korea. The project is part of the department’s plans to revitalise the rail industry in South Africa and to unlock the country’s economic potential and create jobs in the process.Transparency“We have … noted recent media reports indicating that Duduzane Zuma, the son of President Jacob Zuma, Lazarus Zim, the Gupta Brothers together with their Chinese partners, were in line to win the rights to construct Africa’s first high-speed rail project,” Ndebele said.“We wish to state that the Department of Transport will only call for expressions of interest on the Durban-Johannesburg High Speed Rail route in July 2011.“Once received, all expressions of interest will be subject to a strict evaluation process, and the preferred and winning bidders will be announced only following an inclusive and transparent process.“As the first country in Africa likely to have such a project, we owe it to the people of this country and the continent that our greenfield long-distance high-speed rail sets high procurement, transparency, technical and safety standards for the rest of Africa.”In June, an international investors’ conference will be hosted in Cape Town to consolidate interest in various infrastructure projects in the country, including the Durban to Johannesburg high-speed rail project.Source: BuaNewslast_img read more

hi5 Crowdsources Translations: Launches in 10 New Languages

first_imgRelated Posts 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting frederic lardinoiscenter_img A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Social network hi5 launched the first 10 of its user-driven translations today in a push to reach a wider audience. Even though hi5’s numbers in the U.S. are relatively low, it is already the third-largest social network worldwide and has a strong presence in Latin America and Europe. Just like Facebook crowdsourced some of its translations, hi5 also relied on its users to localize the user interface and to rate these translations. As hi5 supports the OpenSocial platform, developers will also be able to access these translation tools to localize their own applications. The 10 new languages on hi5 are Catalan, Danish, British English, Finnish, Hindi, Macedonian, Slovakian, Spanish (Mexico and Colombia), and Swedish. Hi5 expects to support over 60 languages within the next 3 months, including Albanian, Bengali, Bulgarian, Croatian, Maltese, Norwegian, Serbian, and Spanish variants for Peru and Venezuela.Crowdsourcing translations is a natural fit for a social network. At the same time, though, it does come with some pitfalls, including a higher chance of inconsistencies and sub-par translations. For a site like hi5, which has seen most of its growth outside of the U.S., being able to provide its users with a localized version is simply a smart business move. Facebook, after all, lost a lot of its potential market share to clones in some countries because it did not offer localized versions of its service. Tags:#news#web last_img read more

What Do the Dark Web and Bitcoins Have to Do with Card Fraud and…

first_imgIn case you aren’t familiar with the terms, let’s start with three definitions:Dark web – a collection of websites that exist on an encrypted network and cannot be found by using traditional search methods or visited by traditional browsers. Dark web sites often deal in illegal activities.Bitcoins – a worldwide cryptocurrency and digital payment system. Called the first digital currency since the system works without a central repository or single administrator.- Sponsor – Deep web – the aggregate term for websites that are not encrypted but, like the dark web, cannot be accessed by traditional search methods. Contains millions and millions of sites, but content is usually legal.According to Anna Lothson in a post on Rippleshot in August, the dark web market has become a haven for hackers to access credit card data and then commit credit card fraud. The packaging and auctioning of compromised cards occurs faster than a bank can detect it. The monetization of compromised cards has become a sophisticated industry using the dark web. Also, the reselling of stolen credit and identity data through the dark web is running rampant and creating a whole new business for hackers.According to Suzanne Woolley in a recent Bloomberg article, high-limit credit cards are selling on the dark web for the bitcoin equivalent of between $10 and $20. Business credit cards are even more valuable, as they often have very high or no spending limits. In addition to credit card data, underground markets also sell full identities of individuals for as little as $10 apiece. They are called fullz – “dossiers that provide enough financial, geographic and biographical information on a victim to facilitate identity theft or other impersonation-based fraud,” according to the Bloomberg report. Fullz allows fraudsters to get past those highly personal questions asked to verify identity, like your mother’s maiden name. Researchers from SecurWorks, an information security service, recently found one vendor selling W-2 and 1040 tax returns as a package for $30. If a buyer wanted information on the victim’s adjusted gross income, they could get it for an additional $20.It’s interesting to note that bitcoins have become the de facto currency of the dark web. Bitcoins played a major role in Silk Road transactions. Silk Road was an online black-market site dealing mainly in illegal drugs. It was founded in 2011 and shut down by the FBI in October of 2013.Differences between the Deep Web and the Dark WebMany people confuse the deep web with the dark web. Combined, they comprise the majority of the billion-plus websites that exist. It is estimated that traditional web search engines, such as Bing and Google, can only index about one in every three thousand pages on the web.The main difference between the dark web and the deep web is that the dark web is truly dark, often involving illegal activity. Fortunately, the largest part of the deep web, which is huge compared to the dark web, consists of legal statistics and data bases often tied to US government agencies. One surprising fact is, every time you access a website designed for your eyes only, like your bank account, email, or even your personal Netflix account, you are actually on the deep web.Fear of the UnknownScary stuff? You bet. An average individual may feel defenseless against illegal web activity. It has been suggested that credit monitoring and credit freeze services may offer the only hope of protecting oneself from dark web credit fraud and identity theft. There are numerous credit monitoring services that, for a fee, will notify the customer of activity regarding them posted to the three main credit bureaus. They will also report any suspicious activity or changes to personal information, such as address. Some believe using a credit freeze is preferable to credit monitoring. A credit freeze allows a user to “seal” their credit reports and use a personal PIN to temporarily “thaw” their accounts if legitimate inquiries are needed. This prevents thieves from establishing new credit in a user’s name even if they have obtained personal information fraudulently.Credit bureau and information services group Experian has recently been advertising a free “one-time scan” of the dark web scan to see whether your personal information has been compromised. But many believe that even credit monitoring and credit freezes will not stop credit card fraud or identity theft due to the ever-increasing sophistication of thieves on the dark web. Time will tell. This post was originally published in 2017 and was updated February 15, 2018. Spring Preview: How Will OSU Replace its All-Time Leading Scorer?

Because of our subscribers, we’ve been able to improve our work and provide the best OSU news and community anywhere online. Help us keep that up. As we put a bow on the our spring preview series, we turn to the ever-important but often under-valued specialists. The Cowboys lost a record-setting place kicker, return one of the nation’s top punters and are still looking for an answer in the return game.Let’s dive in.KickerLet’s start at that place kicker spot vacated by OSU’s all-time points scorer, Ben Grogan. As far as spring camp goes, the Cowboys only have two kickers listed on the roster. Strong-legged 2017 signee Jake McClure will join the Cowboys this fall after he finishes his senior year of high school. But there’s already a kicker with a big leg on campus. Matt Ammendola was a redshirt freshman a year ago. “Philly” as his head coach calls him turned around OSU’s kickoff game as he took over that side of the kicking duties from Ben Grogan. The previous year, Grogan’s efforts gave the Cowboys touchbacks on just 24 percent of their kickoffs. Ammendola nearly doubled that number as the Cowboys touchback percentage climbed to 47 percent.“(Matt) Amendola will kick,” said Gundy. “We’ll see how he develops. Right now, in practice and games, he’s been six-for-six from 55 yards and out, but he hasn’t been good from 35 and in.We’re going to work him quite a bit this spring.”Ammendola did attempt one field goal last season, as well. A 53-yarder. Which he made.Max Allan, last year’s backup kickoff specialist is not on the spring roster. Kevin Mahon is a redshirt senior transfer from Tarrant County CC who is currently designated as a practice squad contributor but should get some burn in the spring game on April 15.PunterZach Sinor is the clear starter as far as punting duties are concerned. He was the most effective punter in the country as a sophomore in 2016. He looks to build on his legacy in his redshirt junior season.Matt Hockett will also get reps in the spring game. The redshirt junior is pegged for the practice squad but has spent time as a backup punter and has backed up in kickoffs over his time at OSU.Long SnapperIn a group of unheralded positions, they are the probably the most forgotten. Basically, we don’t hear their names unless they screw up or make some incredible play (see Josh Elias in the Cactus Bowl). Last season, a couple of freshmen jockeyed back and forth for reps at long snapper. They will both get plenty of burn this spring.ReturnersAfter a string of extremely effective return men, OSU has hit a bit of a dry spell these last couple of years. Below is a look at the return scores since 2008. Notice the drop off after Tyreek Hill left. (One of those in 2015 was Miketavius Jones’ blocked punt/recovery.)Does OSU have the next Josh Stewart or Justin Gilbert on their roster? The absolute embarrassment of riches we call Oklahoma State’s receiver corps could provide an answer. You can be sure that finding the answer is one of Gundy and Co.’s top priorities this spring.osureturntdslast_img read more
